Born and raised in Istanbul, Haluk Uluşan completed secondary education at Istanbul High School and earned a Bachelor of Architecture from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Following this, he received a Master’s degree in Architectural Design from Istanbul Technical University.
Since 2012, he has been part of the Department of Architecture at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, where he currently serves as a faculty member. His academic journey includes two parallel PhD programs—one at Leibniz Universität Hannover, focusing on the relationship between urbanity and architectural design, and another at MSFAU, exploring epistemological foundations of architectural design. He received their doctorate in 2017 with the thesis titled “A Proposal for a Reflective Historiography in Architecture: Research Through Design.”
His research centers on practice-based design methods and epistemological positioning in architecture. In addition to core undergraduate courses, he offers graduate seminars on topics such as topology, psychoanalytic theory, post-structuralism, and architectural criticism.
Alongside his academic career, he is a founding partner of Nivo Architects, established with Emre Ertuğrul and Nükhet Ak, where they continue to engage in architectural practice. He has also translated several seminal works in architecture and art history from German and English into Turkish.
